FORSEE Project: Horizon Europe Funds Centre for Digital Policy in Exciting New AI-Focused Project

7.01.2025. The Centre is thrilled to announce the reception of €3 million in funding from Horizon Europe, under the funding call Beyond the horizon: A human-friendly deployment of artificial intelligence and related technologies funding call under the Horizon Europe programme, the FORSEE Project will explore the concept of AI “success,” as Project PI Dr Elizabeth Farries has further explained:

“FORSEE seeks to improve our understanding of what “successful AI” actually means in order to enhance regulatory perspectives and approaches. Focusing on sustainability, labour and economic efficiency, gender and engagement with civil society, our research group will offer broadened awareness of the risks and opportunities of AI, based on our grounded research.”

Led by Centre co-director Elizabeth Farries, this innovative project involves a consortium of eight partners from univeristies, research institutions and think tanks across the EU and promises to expand conceptions of AI success in relation to its technological uses as well as economic, social, environmental and ethical implications. Co-PI Prof Eugenia describes the importance of such a project in our current environment of tehchnological advancement:

“n a context of rapid technological developments and regulatory responses, FORSEE aims to develop a strong empirical basis for fair, equitable and sustainable AI governance in dialogue with institutional bodies and societal stakeholders.”

The UCD Consortium will be led by Dr Elizabeth Farries, and Co-PI Prof Eugenia Siapera alongside Prof Aphra Kerr, Dr Arjumand Younus, Dr James Steinhoff, Dr Alexandros Minotakis and Dr Pat Brodie.
