Commissioned Report on the Abuse and Harassment of the Oireachtas and Political Staff

15 May 2024. Centre directors, Prof Eugenia Siapera, Dr Elizabeth Farries and  members Dr Marco Bastos, Dr Paraic Kerrigan and Dr Michael Coleman (DCU) have published a report on the abuse and harassment of members of the Houses of the Oireachtas and political staff.

This first of its kind report, commissioned by the Houses of the Oireachtas, was conducted via a survey sent to Oireachtas members and political staff across Ireland.

The researchers found a high precedence for abuse and harassment, with 94% of the Oireachtas members and 72% of political staff who responded to the survey reporting having experienced abuse, threats or harassment. The report further noted potential causes of the abuse as ranging from immigration and women’s rights to LGBTQ+ concerns and homelessness.
