Report: 2026 International AI Safety Report

19.02.2026. In early February, the second installment of the International AI Safety Report was published with our centre member Susan Leavy contributing as a senior advisor, alongside over 30 countries and intergovernmental organisations. Lead by Prof. Yoshue Bengio, the report highlights the exponential growth of AI and focuses specifically on the potential risks associated with this.

As Leavy has detailed:

“The main take away is that the capabilities of advanced AI systems are increasing at a rapid rate. As we outsource cognitive tasks, as people use it for social engagement, we don’t really understand the effects and the risks.”

The report provides essential details for policymakers to consider as we continue to engage with and work to regulate AI growth and development.
