Report: Resisting Hate and Navigating Agitation: Irish Public Library Staff Stand United Against Reactionary Challenges to LGBTQ+ Materials
12.11.2024. A new report from centre member Dr. Páraic Kerrigan, co-director Prof Eugenia Siapera, and colleagues Dr Claire McGuinnesss, Prof Crystal Fulton, Mx. Faye Carrie and Mr Feargal Keenan on reactionary responses to LBGBTQ+ resources in libraries has been released.
The report sheds light on the experiences of Ireland’s public library
staff as they face unprecedented challenges stemming from reactionary agitation against LGBTQ+ materials and programming, highlighting how they navifgate this hostility and protct inclusivity to serve diverse community needs.
Key findings indicate a commitment to inclusive spaces, the challenges the exist in the face of such agitation, the need for proactive safety measures, and the impact on staff in terms of mental and emotional well-being and health.
