Social media, fundamental rights and courts: an Irish perspective

September 2023. Our Centre’s Co-Director Liz Farries has contributed a Chapter to the 2023 Routledge book ‘Social Media, Fundamental Rights and Courts’, edited by Federica Cararosa and Evangelia Psychogiopoulou.

The chapter reviews important sources of fundamental rights protection in Ireland’s national legal order, including the Irish Constitution, and European Directives and international and regional instruments. It reflects on how social media activity has influenced the decision of Higher Courts in Ireland. It considers at future directions in Ireland, already in play, including emerging legislative instruments tackling the risks and opportunities of social media in our digital age.
