“The Impending Crisis in Society’s Relations to Big Tech”: Nick Couldry’s lecture to the UCD Centre for Digital Policy
Professor Nick Couldry will be giving a lecture to the members and friends of the UCD Centre for Digital Policy.
Date: Tuesday, April 30th
Location: Theatre N, Newman Building, University College Dublin
Title: The Impending Crisis in Society’s Relations to Big Tech: Governability, Solidarity, Freedom
Are the common critiques of Big Tech (surveillance capitalism) sufficient to grasp new developments? Arguing they are not, Nick Couldry will introduce his work with Ulises Mejias on data colonialism (Data Grab, Penguin 2024) and his forthcoming solo book (The Space of the World: Can Human Solidarity Survive Social Media and what if it Can’t? Polity, October 2024). A new approach is needed to grasp the coming crisis of governability, solidarity and freedom affecting contemporary society’s relations to Big Tech.
